When Did War Become Normal

When Did War Become Normal

Sometimes I open the news in the morning and wonder what kind of world we are building.

Another missile.

Another drone.

Another city destroyed.

Another family running with whatever they can carry.

Ukraine.

Gaza.

Sudan.

Myanmar.

Congo.

And many other conflicts most of us barely hear about.

There are now more than 130 armed conflicts around the world.

Think about that number for a moment.

More than 130.

And somehow, we have become used to it.

That might be the part that scares me the most.

We watch a destroyed building while eating breakfast.

We see children running from war and scroll to the next video.

Five minutes later, we are watching football, checking the weather or laughing at something online.

I am not blaming people for this.

Maybe the human mind simply cannot carry the suffering of the entire world every day.

But sometimes I wonder where all of this is heading.

We have artificial intelligence.

We can send machines to other planets.

We can speak instantly with someone on the other side of the Earth.

We have more technology, knowledge and wealth than any generation before us.

And yet we still haven’t learned one of the most basic things:

how to live together without killing each other.

Every government says it wants peace.

Every army says it is defending something.

Every side has its explanation.

Meanwhile, ordinary people bury their children.

Maybe one day historians will look back at our time and ask how a generation with so much knowledge allowed so many wars to become normal.

I hope they will also be able to write that at some point, we finally understood.

Because right now, looking at the world, I am not sure we do.
