Erzurum, Turkey – On 7 November 2026, a fatal shooting occurred in a bridal‑shop on Kevelciler Avenue when shop owner Hakkıhan G., 43, pointed a pump‑action shotgun at neighbor Emirhan Kabanlı, 23, and pulled the trigger. According to the police report, the incident began as a light‑hearted exchange after Kabanlı entered the adjacent shop and the two began to talk while laughing. Hakkıhan G. allegedly said the weapon was “empty” and then aimed it at Kabanlı before firing.

The shot struck Kabanlı in the abdominal area, causing him to collapse at the shop entrance. Bystanders, including Hakkıhan G. himself and other local merchants, rushed to his aid and moved him to a private vehicle. He was taken to Erzurum City Hospital, where medical staff attempted resuscitation, but Kabanlı was pronounced dead despite all interventions.

Security cameras installed at the premises captured the entire sequence: the moment Hakkıhan G. raised the shotgun, the trigger pull, and Kabanlı falling to the ground. Police later recovered the firearm at the scene and detained Hakkıhan G. He was taken to the Atatürk University Research Hospital for a routine health examination before being transferred to the Erzurum Police Directorate’s Public Order Branch for questioning.

Authorities have opened a homicide investigation and are reviewing the surveillance footage as part of the case. No motive beyond the alleged joke has been disclosed, and officials have not indicated whether the shotgun was legally owned. The incident has sparked public outcry in the region, highlighting concerns over the handling of firearms in everyday settings.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further details will be provided as they become available.
