Bosnia and Herzegovina imports 77,930 vehicles in first ten months, Ferrari F8 Tributo tops price list

According to figures released by the Directorate for Indirect Taxation (UIO) and cited by the state news agency SRNA, Bosnia and Herzegovina imported a total of 77,930 automobiles between January and October 2026. The total value of these vehicles reached approximately 1.11 billion convertible marks (KM).

The most expensive car among the imports was a Ferrari F8 Tributo, which carried customs duties and taxes that pushed its price above 668,000 KM. This high‑end sports car dwarfs the average price of the bulk of the imported fleet, which is dominated by used vehicles. Of the total imports, 70,151 were second‑hand cars, while 7,779 were brand‑new models.

Compared with the same period last year, the volume of imports has decreased slightly. In the first ten months of 2025, 80,033 vehicles entered the market, indicating a modest contraction of about 2,100 units in 2026. The overall decline reflects broader regional trends of tighter consumer spending and shifting preferences toward more sustainable mobility options.

Indeed, the data highlight a significant upswing in the adoption of electric and hybrid cars. In the ten‑month window, 366 electric vehicles were imported, more than double the 207 electric cars that were brought into Bosnia and Herzegovina throughout the entire calendar year of 2025. Hybrid vehicles also saw a notable increase, with 4,348 units recorded in 2026, underscoring a growing demand for partially electrified transport solutions.

Industry analysts note that while the luxury segment remains limited to a handful of high‑profile models such as the Ferrari, the broader market is being reshaped by environmental regulations, incentives for low‑emission vehicles, and a gradual shift in consumer preferences. The rise in electric and hybrid imports suggests that the Bosnian market is beginning to align with European Union targets for reduced CO₂ emissions, even though the country is not yet an EU member.

The UIO’s figures also serve as a barometer for the health of the automotive sector, which remains an important source of revenue for the state through customs duties, excise taxes, and value‑added tax. The total tax collection from vehicle imports in 2026 is expected to contribute significantly to the national budget, especially given the high value of luxury imports like the Ferrari.

Overall, the 2026 import data paint a mixed picture: a slight contraction in total vehicle volume, a continued dominance of used cars, but a clear acceleration in the uptake of electric and hybrid models. Policymakers are likely to monitor these trends closely as they consider future tax policies, incentives, and infrastructure investments aimed at supporting a greener automotive market in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
